Powerful pitches win hearts and minds

We believe at the Girls Leadership Meetup (GLAM) that we have a role to play in inspiring, empowering, and igniting the spark to dream in girls. And it’s why we’ve been partnering with Arm since 2018.

After supporting GLAM to go virtual in January 2020, together, we delivered #GLAMVirtual in June, empowering 80 girls from around the globe. Over four 90-minute online sessions, girls between the ages of 8 and 12 heard from awesome women in technology and leadership at Arm, as well as incredible guest speakers. Together, we covered GLAM’s 8 Pillars: Leadership, Strategy, Teamwork, Entrepreneurship, Creativity, Computer Coding, Business Skills, and Public Speaking.

Our Final Mission puts all that the girls have learned during GLAM Virtual into practice. The girls are inspired to come up with a business idea, complete the GLAM Business Plan template, and then take to camera and pitch their business idea in just three minutes. We were excited that 38 girls took on the final mission and created a tough job for judges at Arm and GLAM!

Winner of GLAM Virtual Arm is Izel Keskin for her pitch: Our Voice

12-year-old Izel won all the hearts and minds of our judges with her heartwarming and credible business idea, Our Voice. We just loved Izel’s concept, with the Our Voice app enabling family members to record stories for the children in their lives, helping to bridge the impact of being away from loved ones. Izel’s pitch is phenomenal; she is charismatic, passionate, and has the spirit of an entrepreneur!

GLAM Superpower Winner is Hazel Brown for her pitch: Dyslexia is My Superpower!

At GLAM we love helping girls to tap into their Superpowers, so when we saw Hazel, who is just 10 years old, use her superpower, dyslexia, to help others, we were blown away! Dyslexia is My Superpower is a website for children who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, providing both support and an online community. Hazel’s pitch floored us with her unique and much-needed idea to help other children understand that dyslexia is their superpower!

“A huge congratulations to every girl who took part in GLAM Virtual, and especially to Izel for her phenomenal winning pitch! The enthusiasm and bright ideas of this cohort of girls gives me no doubt that we are looking at the trailblazers of tomorrow. Arm is so proud to have been partnering with GLAM since 2018. As a global technology company, we know that making space for more women in our industry is essential, and that early intervention is critical to maintain enthusiasm for skills like coding. Thank you to GLAM, as well as to our fantastic female volunteers from Arm, for the incredible work that you are all doing to make this happen!” Anna Malan, Community & Inclusion Arm
