GLAM Virtual eBay took place in June, with over 70 girls taking part in our immersive online enrichment program. Girls between the ages of 8 and 12 joined us over a four-week period, hearing from phenomenal women in tech at eBay as well as incredible guest speakers. Together, we covered GLAM’s 8 Pillars: Leadership, Strategy, Teamwork, Entrepreneurship, Creativity, Computer Coding, Business Skills and Public Speaking.
Our Final Mission puts all that the girls have learned into practice, coming up with a business idea and pitching it in just three minutes on camera! We were overwhelmed by the response and our judges at eBay had a tough time choosing just one winner! In fact, it resulted in two girls scooping up 1st prize:
Akshara, aged 8, won 1st prize for her pitch: Show Away Art
The eBay judges and GLAM were blown away by Akshara’s app idea! Everyone loved watching Akshara’s pitch, and we all felt that if Show Away Art was launched, it would be global app within a year. “Keep on presenting— Akshara, you’re a natural, and keep doing your artwork, too! Well done on totally nailing your financials and your pitch!”
Hasini, aged 11, won 1st prize for her pitch: Beads for Earth Our Judges at eBay and GLAM really loved both Hasini’s business idea and presentation style. They felt that Hasini really understood the value proposition of her business. Hasini detailed her costs, revenue, and marketing plan exceptionally well. One judge even asked Hasini, “When do we all start working for you?”
Congratulations to:
Inara for winning 2nd prize with her pitch: Do Over Design
Ashwithaa for winning 3rd prize with her pitch: Mask Clean
Dhara for winning 4th prize with her pitch: Dhara’s Dining Mask
““It was amazing and very impressive to see the girls going through the program and producing innovative business ideas and pitches using the tools, knowledge, and training provided by GLAM. Kudos and congratulations to all the girls! Fostering the creativity, leadership, business and tech skills at such a young age is very important for our future.” Uma Achutha, Senior Product Manager at eBay
Thank you to everyone at eBay for volunteering and supporting GLAM Virtual, including the presenters, coding workshop coaches and Final Mission judges. And special acknowledgement to our guest speakers, Chesley Baker and Apoorva Panidapu.
