We couldn’t be happier that the founder of GLAM, Renée La Londe, was recognized with the National STEM Mentoring Award by the National Mentoring Awards organization in London earlier this month.
The National Mentoring Awards in the United Kingdom recognize and honor individuals and organizations who give their time and effort to mentoring. The awards ceremony on March 1, 2019 in London gave public recognition for mentoring excellence to inspirational mentoring role models across every sector of business, education, sports and society.
GLAM Founder Renée La Londe was named winner in the National STEM Mentoring Award category for her exemplary contributions to mentoring women and girls, and encouraging them to consider and excel in STEM careers.
Mentorship is a key pillar for leadership success, for men and women alike. According to a 2006 Gartner study, mentees are promoted five times more often than those not in a mentoring program. Companies have long understood the importance of mentorship for leadership development, which is why over 70% of Fortune 500 companies have mentoring programs.
GLAM exposes girls to inspirational STEM role models and provides them with mentoring and networking opportunities, to set them on a path to success from an early age. Feedback from the parents of GLAM participants confirm that after participating in the program, girls have more confidence in their ability to succeed and spend more time contemplating what they want to do in life.
